Staff 09 Nov 2023
Meeting of Heads of Secretariat of the Parliament of Georgia with Hungarian Colleagues

The heads of the Secretariat of the Parliament met with members of the delegation from the Legislative Directorate of the National Assembly of Hungary. Ketevan Kvinikadze, the Secretary-General, expressed her gratitude for the visit and welcomed the Hungarian guests.

Deputy-Secretary Generals, David Gelashvili and Giorgi Tskhvediani, provided their Hungarian counterparts with information about the structure of the Georgian Parliament, the organization of the state, and the composition of the Parliament's office.

During the discussion of legislative procedures, David Gelashvili explained the steps involved in the legislative process, from the initiation of a bill to its final adoption. He emphasized the crucial role played by the Secretariat and committee offices in reviewing and preparing draft laws for adoption. It was highlighted that drafts undergo three readings before becoming law, and the Secretariat and committee office staff actively participate in reviewing and editing the content of the drafts.

"We provided the visiting Hungarian colleagues with information about the key functions and activities of the Georgian Parliament. We also discussed the role of the Parliament's Secretariat in the legislative process. The Hungarian delegation was interested in learning about the structure of the Secretariat, the working conditions of its employees, and opportunities for professional development. During our discussions, we exchanged insights on the organization of the state in both Georgia and Hungary. Given Hungary's membership in the European Union, it was valuable for us to share experiences and learn from their model of state organization and governance. Sharing such experiences is beneficial for enhancing our understanding and collaboration with fellow EU member countries", - David Gelashvili stated.
