The candidacy of Giorgi Gabitashvili as the Auditor General approved by the Budget and Finance Committee

The Budget and Finance Committee heard Giorgi Gabitashvili - the candidate nominated for the position of the Auditor General.

The candidate was introduced by Speaker Papuashvili in line with paragraph 2, Article 69 of the Constitution of Georgia, paragraph 1, Article 9 of the Organic Law on the State Audit Office, and subparagraph “y”, paragraph 2, Article 18, and Article 2045 of the Rules of Procedure.

The Chair of the Committee, Paata Kvizhinadze, introduced the biographic data of the candidate.

“Giorgi Gabitashvili has ascended from the position of intern to the role of Prosecutor General. His exceptional talent and dedication are evident, and I am confident that his tenure in the Audit Office will be marked by significant success”, - he declared.

As he noted, the Audit Office and the Prosecution Office differ in structural terms, specifically, the Audit Office issues the recommendations, while the Prosecution Office proceeds with the criminal cases; however, both undertake inquiries, analysis, inspections and considerations.

P. Kvizhinadze extended his best wishes to the candidate and thanked the former Auditor General, Tsotne Kavlashvili, for his activity.

The candidate, G. Gabitashvili reviewed his plans on his new position and introduced the strategic visions of the Office. He expressed his gratitude to Speaker Papuashvili for placing his trust in him.

“I acknowledge the role of the Auditor General - an official being totally free of political influence, and this position is not symbolic for me, and if approved, I hereby pledge to ensure the capacity building of the Office, and undertake to adhere to the key principles of the Audit Office: impartiality, independence, transparency and professionalism”, - he stressed and answered the questions.

The Committee members unanimously approved the candidate. As decided, the candidacy will be considered at the plenary session without the hearings.
