Budget and Finance Committee Endorsed the Central Election Commission’s 2027 Budget Proposal Regarding the Budget Estimates and the Maximum Number of Employees

The Budget and Finance Committee reviewed and endorsed the 2027 budget proposal of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Georgia, including its expenditure estimates and the ceiling on staff numbers.

According to the presenter, Deputy CEC Chairperson Giorgi Sharabidze, the initial budget proposal was revised following consultations with the Committee’s staff.

“The proposed increase in base salaries and bonuses, amounting to GEL 5.41 million, has been completely removed from the application. Funding allocated for the infrastructure project has been reduced by GEL 670,000. Information technology procurement costs have also been reduced by GEL 4.04 million. As a result of these adjustments, the 2027 budget proposal has been reduced by GEL 10.12 million and now totals GEL 58.428 million”, - Giorgi Sharabidze stated.

According to him, GEL 47.583 million is allocated for the development of the electoral environment, covering the operational expenses of the CEC Secretariat and the District Election Commissions.

“The election administration considers 2027 to be a preparatory year for the 2028 elections. Accordingly, GEL 11.5 million has been allocated for information technology infrastructure, including the extension of licenses required for secure operation and the partial renewal of equipment”, - he stated

He also noted that funding is allocated for: the rehabilitation of the Central Election Commission building; other administrative expenses; the development of the electoral institution; the promotion of civic education; and the financing of political parties.
