Media and Society 23 May 2024
Meeting of the Opposition MPs with the OSCE/ODIHR Director

The Opposition MPs met with the OSCE/ODIHR Director, Matteo Mecacci to overview the pre-electoral milieu and the mechanisms that are to ensure fair elections.

According to the member of the Political Group “Reforms Group”, Giorgi Vashadze, OSCE/ODIHR will be holding intense observation on the pre-electoral situation in Georgia.

“We need to get prepared since the elections will be held under the regime of authoritarianism. At the meeting, we skipped the conversation about the legitimization of the elections, since it will be the topic of further assessments”, - he noted.

“The frequency of the meetings with us by the international institutions evidences that Georgia and Georgian people are not alone. International society is the supporter of our democratic process and thoroughly sees to the developments in the country. At the meeting, we discussed the “Russian Law”. As we know, ODIHR has submitted a detailed analysis last year that the hereof Law is in full incompliance not only with the European but international standards”, - a member of the Political Group “Lelo-Partnership for Georgia”, Ana Natsvlishvili stated.

The meeting was attended by MPs Khatia Dekanoidze, Hermann Szabo, Tinatin Bokuchava, Giorgi Vashadze and Ana Natsvlishvili.
