Information on activities and scheduled projects in the diaspora domain introduced to the Diaspora and Caucasus Issues Committee

The Diaspora and Caucasus Issues Committee heard the report on the projects in the Georgian diaspora sphere introduced by the Education, Science and Youth Ministry.

“Our aspiration is to empower Georgian children residing globally to retain their Georgian language, culture, and history. In this regard, we have meticulously crafted a specialised program that has witnessed consistent year-on-year enhancement in its engagement with children.” - Kakha Khandolishvili, Head of the International Cooperation and Strategic Development Department, reported.

According to him, the Education Ministry in cooperation with the Foreign Affairs Ministry, provides the Georgian and Sunday schools abroad with educational resources.

The Head of the EU Integration and International Cooperation Board, Ana Lukava accentuated the Georgian language courses for the diaspora.

As per her information, the Georgian language remote program was initiated in 2017 for the Georgian diaspora. Currently, 2854 children and 42 pedagogues are engaged in the program.

“The children are categorised according to their level and age. Currently, there are 240 groups holding the lessons twice per week. The pedagogues from almost all the regions of the country are engaged in this program, which is backed by the TEAMS platform”, - she noted.

According to her, the first textbook, “33 Keys,” has already been published, and the second and third books are soon to come. Each textbook has history, culture and geography integrated.

The reporter reviewed the vocational qualification courses.

Irakli Zarkua, the Chair of the Diaspora and Caucasus Issues Committee, thanked the reporters for the submitted information.

“The Parliament is committed to supporting you in all these projects and providing our diaspora with high-quality education services”, - he stated.

The Committee discussed the amendments to the Articles of the Committee, envisaging the retitling of the Committee.

“Pursuant to the new Rules of Procedure, the title of our Committee shall be replaced with the Diaspora Committee and the said modification shall be reflected in our Articles”, - he elucidated.
