Georgi Sosiashvili and Vladimir Bozhadze Attended an Event Dedicated to the 150th Anniversary of the Publication of “Mother Tongue”

An event dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the publication of “Mother Tongue” was held at the National Library of Georgia.

The event was attended by Giorgi Sosiashvili, Deputy Chair of the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee, and Vladimir Bozhadze, Chair of the Parliamentary Political Group “European Socialists”.

Members of Parliament addressed the participants of the event, noting that the Georgian language plays a significant role in the formation of national identity. It was emphasized that the protection and development of the Georgian language is essential.

The participants were also addressed by Konstantine Gamsakhurdia, General Director of the National Library of Georgia, and Zurab Abashidze, Chairman of the Tbilisi City Council.

The event featured exhibits from the National Library’s collections of “Mother Tongue” editions, ranging from the first publication to modern versions.

The anniversary was also marked by the reprint of the 1876 edition of “Mother Tongue,” published by the National Library of Georgia.

The book is notable for having once belonged to Dimitri Kipiani and containing handwritten comments by him on nearly every page. A presentation of the book was held during the event.
