The First Deputy Chair of the Economic Policy Committee and Head of the Georgia-Hungary Friendship Group, Irakli Mezurnishvili, met with the Vice Speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly, István Jakab.
The parties discussed cooperation between the two countries in various fields and prospects for future relations.
Particular attention was paid to opportunities for further development of tourism between the two countries.
During the meeting, the parties also discussed the parliamentary elections scheduled to take place in Hungary in April, in which a Georgian delegation will participate as part of an observation mission.
The discussion also touched upon Hungary’s continued support for Georgia within European structures.
Irakli Mezurnishvili thanked the Vice Speaker of the National Assembly for Hungary’s decision to finance the education of up to 80 Georgian students at universities in Budapest.
“We discussed all the areas that connect our two countries. It is very encouraging that tourism is developing actively. It is important that Hungary funds and provides up to 80 scholarships for our young people, giving them the opportunity to receive education at universities in Budapest. Hungary has always supported Georgia within European structures. Wherever, unfortunately, Georgia’s voice is not adequately represented today, Hungary consistently manages to protect Georgia’s interests. I am confident that the existing cooperation and friendship between our two countries will continue,” - Irakli Mezurnishvili stated after the meeting.
The meeting was also attended by the Head of the Interparliamentary Office of the Hungarian National Assembly, Lajos Kohári, and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Hungary to Georgia, H.E. Petra Ponevács-Pana.
