Mariam Lashkhi and Ilia Injia held a meeting on the rights of children in the digital space

The Chair of the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee and the Chair of the Interim Commission on Women and Children, Mariam Lashkhi, and the Vice-Speaker and a member of the Political Group “European Socialists”, Ilia Injia, held a meeting on the protection of children’s rights in the digital space.

At the meeting with representatives of the National Communications Commission, the focus was on preventive measures, raising awareness and integrating best international practice into the Georgian context.

“We discussed the challenges that acquire even greater urgency in the context of the distribution of artificial intelligence and deep fake news. The imperative of protecting the best interests of children in the online environment was highlighted, which necessitates a careful balance. It is crucial to establish mechanisms that will protect children from digital threats”, - M. Lashkhi stated.

It was noted that the formation of an effective policy requires the sharing of international experience.

“We reviewed the experience of various countries in this sphere. It is essential to protect our children from the threats that may be posed in the online space”, - I. Injia noted.
