Nino Tsilosani, Mariam Lashkhi, and Rati Ionatamishvili Addressed the Closing Event of the “Public Dialogue on Inclusive Education” Project

Vice Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Nino Tsilosani, Chair of the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee Mariam Lashkhi, and Chair of the Human Rights Protection and Civil Integration Committee Rati Ionatamishvili delivered remarks at the closing event of the “Public Dialogue on Inclusive Education” project.

In their speeches, the Members of Parliament emphasized the importance of advancing inclusive education in Georgia, ensuring equal educational opportunities, and strengthening support for students with special educational needs. They also highlighted the need to create an inclusive environment that promotes the full participation and development of every student.

The event was opened by the Education, Science and Youth Minister, Givi Mikanadze. Participants were also addressed by Deputy Minister Baia Kvitsiani.

During the closing event, the key findings of the public dialogue and the initiatives developed on the basis of those findings were presented. These included: transforming resource schools into methodological centres; expanding inclusive services at the preschool education level; supporting the professional development of special education teachers and assistants; strengthening support mechanisms for children with dyslexia.

The Ministry of Education, Science and Youth’s “Public Dialogue on Inclusive Education” project aims to strengthen cooperation between state institutions and the school community. The initiative seeks to raise public awareness of existing support mechanisms available to students with special educational needs.

The public dialogue was conducted over a four-month period and covered all regions of Georgia. A total of 15 meetings were held nationwide, involving more than 2,000 participants.

The event was attended by representatives of Parliament and the executive branch, Abkhazia AR Education and Culture Minister Giorgi Dzadzamia, Ajara AR Education and Sports Minister Maia Khajishvili, parents of children with special educational needs, special education teachers, psychologists, representatives of school administrations, and members of civil society.

The “Public Dialogue on Inclusive Education” initiative was implemented with the support of the World Bank project “Innovation, Inclusion and Quality”.
