Sitting of the Bureau

Before defining the March 16-19 Plenary Agenda, the Speaker, H.E. Archil Talakvadze reaffirmed his political support for Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili amid the ongoing processes in the country -"At this important time when the country is facing challenges such as vaccination, political dialogue, economic recovery, I would like to reaffirm my political support for Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili”.

According to him, a new package of electoral reform was sent for assessment to the OSCE/ODIHR today -"The new package of electoral reform, prepared by the working group in accordance with the OSCE recommendations, was sent to the OSCE/ODIHR Office today for conclusions and assessments”.

A. Talakvadze is convinced that the legislative package developed with the participation of the opposition will further improve the election rules and the environment for local self-government elections.

"All stakeholders, political parties will have the opportunity to participate in the deliberation of legislative changes. We should work together to let our country in the next local elections be in an even better environment and with improved electoral rules", - the Speaker elucidated and noted that wearing a face-mask before vaccination in the country is the most effective way to protect against coronavirus.

"Before vaccination, the face-mask is the most effective means of protection, so I ask every member of our community to wear it. Everyone should follow the recommendations provided by the health services as much as possible", - the Speaker stated.

According to A. Talakvadze, the Government is doing everything to give the country timely access to the vaccine - "We have received updated information about vaccination from the Ministry of Health and the Government is doing everything possible to ensure that Georgia receives access to the vaccine in a timely manner, as this, in turn, is related to the opening of social, economic and cultural processes and economic recovery. I appeal to every member of our society to take maximum responsibility for the use of the face-mask”.

The Bureau defined the Legal Issues Committee as the leading Committee in deliberating the Bill on Electoral Code.

The document regulates: the rules of decision-making of the CEC, issues related to the number of CEC members, composition and their election, the rule of appointment and termination of CEC members by parties, the establishment of the District Election Commission, the establishment of the Precinct Election Commission and the municipality issues (composition of city councils).

There are about twenty items on the agenda of the March 16-19 Plenary Sessions, including the hearing of the 2020 Activity Reports of the Committees and standing delegations of the Parliament.

According to the agenda, the Parliament will vote for the candidates for the vacant positions of the members of the Georgian National Communications Commission.
