Parliament Endorsing Bill on Cultural and Creative Broadcasting in First Reading

The Parliament reviewed in the first reading and approved, with 82 votes in favor, the amendments to the Law on Broadcasting and the accompanying draft legislation.
The proposed amendments regulate issues related to the functioning of cultural-creative radio broadcasting, including the financial resources allocated for such broadcasting, the placement of programs in the official language of Georgia, the procedures for licensing and authorization, and the overall operational framework of cultural-creative radio broadcasters.
One of the initiators of the bill, Chair of the Culture Committee Giorgi Gabunia, explained that the law introduces a new category within radio broadcasting – cultural-creative radio broadcasting.
“Cultural-creative radio broadcasting will promote various fields of culture and provide the general public with informative and educational content related to cultural developments. Its primary purpose is not profit generation", - G. Gabunia stated.
He further noted that this initiative will contribute to the development of the radio broadcasting sector, foster greater interest and competition, and provide an important platform for cultural professionals to showcase their work to the public.
