The Budget and Finance Committee reviewed for the II reading the Draft Tax Code and the alternative bill

The Budget and Finance Committee reviewed, in the II reading and under an expedited procedure, the draft Tax Code of Georgia, submitted by the Majority MPs, as well as an alternative proposal presented by the “For Georgia” faction regarding specific provisions of the same draft law.

The draft law introduces changes to the excise taxation rules for passenger vehicles.

In particular, the excise rate for vehicles aged 0 to 6 years (inclusive) is set at GEL 1.5 per 1 cm³ of engine capacity, while for vehicles older than 6 years it is set at GEL 4.5 per 1 cm³.

The alternative proposal was presented by Vika Pilpani, a member of the “For Georgia” faction. According to her, the existing excise rate for the import of vehicles aged 0 to 10 years should be maintained, while the GEL 4.5 rate should apply only to vehicles older than 10 years.

The reporter on the draft law, Irakli Kheladze, First Deputy Chair of the Committee, did not approve the alternative proposal. Consequently, the committee rejected it.

The Committee approved the draft Tax Code of Georgia, proposed by Majority MPs
