The Chair of the Parliamentary Political Group “European Socialists” and a member of the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee, Vladimer Bozhadze, delivered a speech at an event dedicated to the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, held at the Georgian National Academy of Sciences.
Vladimer Bozhadze spoke about the significant contributions and professional achievements of women scientists and congratulated them on their professional day.
“According to data from the National Statistics Office, 55% of active researchers in Georgia are women, while globally women account, on average, for only one-third of those engaged in science. This indicator is particularly significant and a matter of pride, as Georgia stands out in this regard on the global scientific map. The Parliament of Georgia will do everything possible to further encourage girls’ and women’s interest in science and to create the necessary conditions for them to serve their country and science with dignity”, - Vladimer Bozhadze stated.
The participants of the event were also addressed by the Education, Science and Youth Minister, Givi Mikanadze, and the President of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences, Roin Metreveli.
The International Day of Women and Girls in Science has been observed on 11 February since 2015, pursuant to a resolution of the UN General Assembly.
