Mr. Givi Mikanadze, Chair of the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee, participated in the opening ceremony of the 5th International Scientific Conference - “Academic Society Against Transnational Organized Crime”.

In his welcome address, Mr. Mikanadze underscored the pivotal role of criminology, emphasising the emergence of criminology as a scientific discipline in Georgia and the pioneering contributions of Georgian scientists to this field.

“Criminology is one of the most dynamic and fundamental fields of law. It entails a comprehensive study of the factors that contribute to crime, the criminal behaviour itself, and the external influences that shape it. The criminological analysis is imperative for the planning of the crime prevention policy.
Criminology has long transcended the mere description of crimes, striving to analyse the underlying causes, identify patterns, and provide recommendations for effective crime prevention and upholding human justice.
It is paramount and responsible at the same time that the legacy left by the scientists shall continue with the same success in adhering to international standards and employing research-based approaches”, - he stated.

The Conference, attended by researchers from Georgia and various countries worldwide, as well as law enforcement agencies, addressed a range of issues, including: emerging transnational crime patterns, global cybercrime and drug trafficking threats, legal evaluation of “call centres,” international security, money laundering, human organ trafficking, and the application of artificial intelligence in crime prevention.

The last panel of the Conference includes the accession of civil society to the Declaration.

The 5th International Scientific Conference - “Academic Society Against Transnational Organized Crime” is hosted by Grigol Robakidze University and commemorates the corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences, Professor Tinatin Tsereteli.

The Conference is organized by Grigol Robakidze University, National Academy of Sciences, Academy of Criminology Sciences, and the UN ECOSOC advisory organizations.
