Rati Ionatamishvili and Eka Sepashvili Participated in the 79th Session of the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR)
The Chair of the Human Rights Protection and Civil Integration Committee, Rati Ionatamishvili and the Secretary of the Interim Commission on Women’s and Children’s Issues, Eka Sepashvili, participated in the 7th meeting of the 79th session of the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR), held in Geneva on 11–12 February.

During the session, the representatives of Parliament briefed Committee members on the legislative amendments implemented over the past five years in the field of human rights protection and emphasized that Georgia once again reaffirms its firm commitment to human rights, grounded in constitutional guarantees.

Particular attention was paid to the importance of the legislative framework concerning transparency, family values, and the protection of minors.

According to the Georgian MPs, the protection of children’s rights is a priority for Georgia, while the national anti-discrimination law safeguards the rights and equality of all individuals.

The progress achieved includes advancements in good governance, protection of property rights, economic stability, judicial independence, media pluralism, the rights of women, children and persons with disabilities, and inclusive political representation, as reflected in leading international indices and the case law of the European Court of Human Rights.

Members of the Georgian Parliament underscored the importance of activities conducted within the framework of international treaties and noted that active cooperation with international mechanisms in the field of human rights protection remains one of the country’s key priorities.
