Irakli Beraia: the liability for all illegalities committed in the occupied regions shall be imposed on the occupation force, the Russian Federation

The Chair of the Defense and Security Committee, Irakli Beraia responded to the murder of the Georgian citizen in the occupied Abkhazia and estimated it as the appalling and tragic fact.

“The Russian occupation poses the gravest challenge for our country. Various demonstrations of all these problems related to the occupation are unfortunately acutely experienced by our population on a daily basis through the facts of murder. Any person, convicted and blamed for the violation of the rights of Georgian citizens, murder, torture and inhuman treatment, as well as other illegal activities committed on the occupied territories will not go unpunished whatever time it takes and whenever they go – the penalties will find them. The liability for all illegalities committed in the occupied regions shall be imposed on the occupation force, the Russian Federation, which evidences once again the necessity of the increased pressure of international society on the occupant country and this pressure shall be painful and universal to make the occupant fulfill the cease-fire agreement and other commitments assumed under the international law. Russian occupation will end and Russia will have to pay a high price for the crimes committed against Georgia and its citizens”, - he stated.

According to him, the central topics of the Parliamentary Delegation within parliamentary diplomacy, at the bilateral and other platforms and at the meetings with the partners, are the occupation of the Georgian regions and the necessary de-occupation thereof.

“The key request we express at the meetings with our partners is to increase the pressure on Russia and to specify respective terms – occupation is the occupation and it has no other meaning, and it’s necessary for our international partners to due acknowledge it and reflect this term in all respective documents”, - he added.
