Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee Pays Official Visit to Romania

The Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, Nikoloz Samkharadze, and the Chair of the European Integration Committee, Levan Makhashvili, are on an official visit to Bucharest, Romania.

The delegation held meetings with the President of the Romanian Senate, Mircea Abrudean, and members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Chamber of Deputies.

Discussions focused on the dynamics of bilateral relations between Romania and Georgia, with both sides emphasizing that the visit of the Georgian parliamentary delegation will contribute to strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation.

The parties also reviewed the internal political situations in Georgia and Romania, including the parliamentary elections in Georgia and the presidential elections in Romania, which were later annulled.

The security situation in the Black Sea region was also a key topic, particularly the ongoing negotiations between the United States and Russia concerning Ukraine and their implications for the security of both Georgia and Romania.

"We discussed all key issues, including the situation in Georgia’s occupied regions, the EU enlargement process, and Georgia’s integration into the European Union. Our Romanian colleagues once again reaffirmed their unconditional support for Georgia’s EU membership. They noted that it is realistic for Georgia to implement all the necessary reforms required for EU accession by 2030", - Nikoloz Samkharadze commented.

As part of the visit, a meeting was also held with Daniela Nicolescu, State Secretary of the Ministry of Economy, Digitization, Entrepreneurship, and Tourism.

Discussions covered strategic projects, including the Black Sea submarine cable project connecting Georgia and Romania, as well as the development and full utilization of the Middle Corridor.

Both sides underscored that Georgia and Romania are strategically significant countries for the Middle Corridor project and share a mutual interest in ensuring its operationalization as an additional trade route linking Europe and Asia.
